Health & Safety
Health and safety (H&S) is a fundamental responsibility of an employer.
Although UTV is not a heavy industry, there are H&S risks associated with our business. For example, programme making typically involves a number of freelancers who may not be familiar with our H&S systems and appropriate training is given. TV studios contain electrical equipment that is frequently erected and disassembled for the requirements of a specific programme. Outdoor sets may require special safety measures to manage the risks connected with a specific environment e.g. from traffic or working at heights. H&S is also relevant in our offices where there may be ergonomic issues.
We operate H&S management systems for Risk Assessment to reduce these hazards and ensure that we provide a safe work environment.
We have a H&S committee which sits monthly to review and develop H&S issues.
We have produced our own H&S Manual which is revised annually by the Committee.
Every employee has a responsibility to help maintain a safe workplace. In addition, managers have specific responsibilities for H&S.
During programme production responsibility for H&S rests with the producer. He/she has overall responsibility and communicates H&S issues to cast and crew. Production risk assessments are carried out before each production.
At the recruitment stage all new employees are issued with a H&S manual and familiarised with its contents. Additional training is given as required to staff affected by specific issues in their workplace.
When working practices are changed or modified the H&S requirements are reviewed to ensure best practice.
