UTV is a member of Business in the Community (BITC) and its Chief Executive John McCann sits on the board of BITC in Northern Ireland.
BITC is a movement of companies across the UK and Ireland committed to continually improving their positive impact on society. BITC has a core membership of 750 companies including 75% of the FTSE 100.
UTV has been investing in local communities for some time now – offering resources, staff time and experience to help community organisations get ahead and meet their objectives. Such investment brings real benefits - it is good for staff development, good for business and good for the community.
A unique aspect of our community support is the free provision to local voluntary, charitable, sporting and enterprise bodies of our studio facilities. Many of these groups could not otherwise afford such a high profile platform or reception.
In addition, UTV opens its doors weekly to groups of school children, ethnic organisations and disabled groups for tours of our studios.
For many years, UTV broadcasted daily Community Service Announcements for community and charitable associations in Northern Ireland and thousands of groups benefited from this service. In 2007, UTV's commitment to social action programming was relaunched by introducing a hard hitting campaign putting UTV's audience at the very heart of its output across all mediums - Television, Radio and Online.
This first cross promotion initiative was a campaign entitled 'U Can Make a Difference'. Showing how small changes in everyday life can make a big difference to the community we live in, the campaign was shortlisted for a Local Community Impact Award by Business in the Community.
UTV is also a member of Opportunity Now. Opportunity Now is a business-led campaign which works with employers to realise the economic potential and business benefits that women at all levels contribute to the workforce.
